Star Trek: The Next Generation (星际旅行:下一代/银河飞龙) was the second live-action Star Trek TV series, set in the 24th century. Like its predecessor, it was created by Gene Roddenberry. Produced at Paramount Pictures, it aired in first-run syndication (by Viacom in the US) from September 1987 to May 1994.

《星际旅行:下一代》(简称TNG)是《星际旅行》系列的第2部剧集，台湾翻译为《银河飞龙》，于1987-1994年共播出了7季。该剧讲述的是在24世纪，《星际旅行:原初系列》(简称TOS)的八十年后，Picard舰长率领进取号D继续探索太空的冒险故事。该剧共获得18项艾美奖,11项其他各类奖和51项各类提名。

　　「宇宙，人类最后的边疆，这是星舰进取号的旅程，它所持续的使命，是为了探索陌生的新世界，寻找新的生命及新的文明，勇敢地航向那前所未至的宇宙洪荒。」

Star Trek: The Next Generation moved the universe forward 75 years past the days of Kirk and Spock. Where Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) was clearly made in the 1960s, The Next Generation shows all the markings of a 1980s product.

As with the original Star Trek, TNG was still very much about exploration, 'going where no man has gone before'. Similarly, the show centered around the adventures of the crew of a starship, namely the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D). Later shows such as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager tried to explore different themes.

The show's special effects were still mostly made with miniatures (compare competing shows of the time, such as Babylon 5, which used computer generated images extensively), but it has a much more polished look than the original Star Trek.

　　在八十年後，畢凱(Picard)艦長率領进取號(Enterprise-D)繼續探索太空。

　　随着电影第四集的成功，十年前中断的梦想　STAR TREK : PHASE II　再度点燃，派拉蒙电影公司决定筹划第二代影集。第二代影集在台湾翻译为「银河飞龙」。

　　1986 年 10 月 10 日，计画开始执行，派拉蒙电影公司再度请「Star Trek」的创始人－－金恩·罗登贝利制作新的「Star Trek」影集。一部影集当然要有个名称，除了 STAR TREK 一定要保留之外，十六天後，制作小组想出了超过三十个名称－－「STAR TREK : THE MISSION CONTINUES」　任务再行　、「STAR TREK: A NEW BEGINNING」　新开始　、「STAR TREK : THE NEW ADVENTURE」　新冒 险　、「STAR TREK: FUTURE TREK」　未来之旅　、「STAR TREK : ENTERPRISE VII」　进取号 - 7　等等，最後终於以「STAR TREK : THE NEXT GENERATION」下一代/新的一代/新世代，台湾电视公司译为《银河飞龙》。

　　接下来就是影集开头的那段话了，新的进取号舰长是不是也要在影集的片头重申一次进取号的任务呢？当然！一开始的版本是这样的：「宇宙，人类的终极边疆，这是星舰进取号７的旅程，它所持续任务，是为了探索未知的新世界，寻找新生命以及新文明，勇敢地航向人类前所未至的地方。」和「星际争霸战」的版本并没有太大的差别，只是多了个「进取号７」。虽然当时已经确定新一代影集的进取号编号为 NCC-1701-7 但最後还是把这段话的「７」拿掉了，而为了更强调银河中有许多不同的人种，「人类　man　」也改成了用　one　代替，不光指地球人类。

　　由於电影第四集「抢救未来」最後出现了进取号 NCC-1701-A，制作群决定将「下一代」影集的进取号编号改为现在大家熟悉的 NCC-1701-D，一直到现在，只有进取号的编号是维持不变，後面再挂上字母的，这是进取号的特权，其它星舰在不同时代即使有重复的名称，也不会有相同的编号。

　　一部影集要诞生，演员是最重要的。星舰进取号理所当然要有一位舰长，於是第一个角色－－ Julien Picard　朱利安·毕凯　产生了，在 1973 年出了一本叫《Star Trek的世界》的书，里面有一行斜体字：「一位舰长，不管是星舰的还是任何飞行器，绝不能让自己处在危险之中。」进取号出外勤任务时，如果舰长也要和新种族接触，那就是会让自己处在危险之中，於是制作群决定要有一位副舰长－－ William Ryker　威廉·莱克　。金恩·罗登贝利希望由女性来担任安全官以表示未来男女平等，Macha Hernandez　马赫·汉娜德丝　的角色诞生，後来又加入两个女性角色，顾问 Deanna Troi　戴安娜·星异　和医官 Beverly Crusher　贝芙丽·柯洛夏　。为了纪念一位众所皆知　美国地区　，於 1975 年过逝的眼盲星舰迷 George La Forge　乔治·拉弗吉　，金恩·罗登贝利创造出一个眼盲的角色－－ Geordi La Forge　乔迪·拉弗吉《鹰眼》　，鹰眼是进取号舵手。接下来是一个生化人的角色－－ Data　百科　，他是进取号的科学官。

　　金恩·罗登贝利又希望有一个年青的角色，是贝芙丽的孩子，但不确定要男生 Wesley　魏斯理　还是女生 Leslie　雷丝莉　，最後他们决定是一个「动人的十五岁左右的女生」。制作群希望有一位克林贡人在舰桥上，金恩·罗登贝利却极力反对，因为在「星际争霸战」以及前四集电影，克林贡人一直是个反派的角色，但在仔细刻划克林贡角色的背景以及身世後，「下一代」的最後一个角色 Worf　武夫　定案，武夫加入了星际联邦代表著昔日的敌人已成为今日的盟友，在冷战时代是个很有意义的角色。

　　上两段的人名和之後真正播出时的人名有所不同，在这之间，朱利安·毕凯被改成 Jean-Luc Picard　尚路克·毕凯　，威廉·莱克换成 William Riker　威廉·瑞克　，马赫·汉娜德丝变成 Tasha Yar　叶塔莎　，而「动人的十五岁左右的女生」也改成天才儿童魏斯理。

　　「宇宙，人类的终极边疆，这是星舰进取号的旅程，它所持续任务，是为了探索未知的新世界，寻找新生命以及新文明，勇敢地航向前所未至的地方。」在1987 年 9 月 28 日，毕凯舰长的开场之下，进取号的航程开始了！时间定在「TOS」的一百年後，科技看起来更为进步，如：触碰式的面板、通讯徽章，各种工具都小得许多，而功能也更强大，外星人拥有更多的奇型怪状，而且已经不局限在「吸氧气」的生物了。 虽然贝芙丽医官在第二年离开了进取号到星舰医学院当院长，到第三年才回来，但第二年有 Kate Pulaski　凯特·蓝思琪　代理进取号医官的职务，而进取号的交谊厅也多了个酒保 Guinan　解难　，饰演解难的演员就是琥碧·戈柏，她因为在「星际争霸战」里看到黑人角色「乌胡拉」演出的军官角色，立志当演员，於是她要求在「下一代」演出。

　　「下一代」一共演了七季，艾美奖超过四十次提名。1991 年 12 月 28 日，台湾电视公司引进「下一代」影集，可惜时间不固定，又加上无广告收入，「下一代」在台湾播完两季就停播，在卫视合家欢台重播时，台湾电视公司又开始复播，但播完第三季後就从此没有下文，至今只剩下卫视合家欢台还在播出「下一代」。

幕后故事

Andrew Probert was first hired by Gene Roddenberry in 1978. However, not until 1986, when Roddenberry was preparing to launch a new show, entitled Star Trek: The Next Generation, did he call upon Probert to take a lead design role. Everything had to be rethought, imagined, planned and redesigned. As the vision evolved in the designers' minds, the evolution was charted in successive sketches and paintings, some of which in elaborate and perfect detail are shown here. They are unique, one-of-a-kind originals.

Among Probert's creation, in addition to the new Enterprise starship and many of its interiors including the main bridge, are many other featured spacecraft. The Ferengi cruiser, and even the Ferengi species are a Probert design.
