一部超级搞笑的科幻动画片，这部动画片是《辛普森一家》(The Simpsons)的制作班底制作的，并获得了多次艾美奖等殊荣。香港曾播出过,港译名为"乃出个未来"，共72集。最早在FOX播出的时候是5季，后来发行的DVD有4季的版本，同样是72集，只是划分不同而已。
该剧讲述了 Fry，一位20世纪的年轻人， 在1999年12月31日意外被冷凍一千年后醒来后在30世纪的冒险经历。Phillip Fry是一个纽约市的25岁的比萨饼快递员，他的生活就是每天四处奔波.1999年的12月21日他偶然的被冰冻了起来, 当他醒过来时已是1000年以后，他也有了一个开始新生活的机会. 他到星际快递公司找了一个工作, 那个公司主要业务就是为宇宙的各个角落提供现代化的快递包裹服务. 他的同事包括快递运输船船长 Leela, 一个粗暴但可爱的单眼女外星人，还有一个同样有着人类缺点(他喝酒,抽烟,偷窃...)的机器人 Bender。Fry, Leela, Bender, 有时再加上Amy 和Zoidberg 他们冒着生命危险为宇宙的各个地方快递包裹，有时也为了减税从事一些慈善行动.
剧情和背景
1999年 ，FOX电视台黄金档招牌节目、创造连续播出15年奇迹的动画剧集The Simpsons的缔造者Matt Groening应FOX的请求，在世纪之交以3000年的纽约为背景、历时3年创意的新动画喜剧剧集Futurama（衍生的同名游戏在国内有译成《未来狂想曲》）正式开播。
Futurama讲述匹萨送货员Fry这个total loser在1999年12月31日送外卖到一家人体冷冻保存公司，却发现是被人恶作剧。窗外广场的人群开始倒数新年来到，而Fry在自己享用啤酒时把凳子弄翻，不小心跌进了一个冷冻保存柜，一冻即是1000年。2999年新年夜，复苏的Fry发现窗外正在倒数进入3000年，想到自己一冻千年，父母、朋友、匹萨店都不可能再见，不禁高声欢呼。Fry在新纽约（New New York）遇到了被父母遗弃在地球而身世不明、武艺高强的独眼（Cyclop）女郎Leela，吃喝嫖赌抽五毒俱全、与Fry臭味相投结为好友的弯折机器人Bender，地球上唯一和Fry有血缘关系的N重侄孙、150高龄（实际已经160）的天才发明家Farnworth教授。经过一番周折，Fry、Leela、Bender分别成了教授为自己的各种古怪科研筹集资金而经营的Planet Express星际快递公司的快递员、飞船船长和厨子，公司里还有南美裔的官僚经理、前世界级过低杠选手Hermes，华裔的富家女、工程学进修生Amy Wong，和一个学历可疑的、种族是螃蟹的Zoidberg医生。Futurama的故事即围绕这些人物的各种境遇和奇遇展开，此外经常出现的角色还有地球军队总指挥、自我感觉异常良好、习惯性不穿内裤的Zapp Branigan和他的外星人副官Kif，教授年轻时候的相好、地球所有机器人的制造商Mom等等。
如果说The Simpsons调侃的对象是美国人心目中的American Family，那么Futurama则以各种方式对经典的美国式科幻（Sci-Fi）进行反转和调侃，经典科幻的永恒主题——人类与外星文明之间的保卫地球或者征服新星球的战争——不再是主题，取而代之的是当代人时时都在面对的各种问题：工作，挣钱，网络，犯罪，毒品，PORN...，在科幻背景中以Matt Groening特有的幽默方式融入了对美国现实社会的折射和讽刺，而各种20世纪名人如克林顿、尼克松、基辛格、霍金、歌手、新闻记者等等时常以各种形式出现，更加重了以未来写当今的色彩。
Futurama开播以后，很快受到观众——特别是科幻迷——的喜爱，取得相当大的成功，在Amazon上这一剧集的DVD用户评分都在4.5到5颗星。评论界也相当看好，共获6次Emmy奖提名，3次获奖。当然，众口难调，不喜欢Futurama的也大有人在，特别是看惯了The Simpsons的家庭式幽默的观众中，很多人对同样来自Groening的Futurama在诸多方面与前者的不同很不习惯，而Futurama中对暴力、犯罪、PORN、性等“禁忌”题材的触及和处理显然也让很多道德人士反感。对FOX台方来说，请Groening创作新剧集的本意是希望能够得到第二个The Simpsons，通过同样的商业运作获得全方位的金钱回报。虽然Futurama的收视率相当不错，观众总体反映也很好，但是比起已经热播10年的The Simpsons仍相差许多，这对急等收钱的资本家和电视台来说是不能接受的（他们当然不会记得The Simpsons的成功也是经过了几年的努力才获得的）。开播时在黄金档播出的Futurama由于收视率没有达到FOX台方的高预期，很快就受到台方的冷落，后来竟被用来填补节目调整留出的时间空档。第5季制作完毕之后，FOX台没有继续签约，这一剧集因而在2003年8月早早中止。如今在FOX电视台网站上，除了有Groening制作的一个简短的FLASH介绍和商城里的DVD以外，基本看不到任何其它Futurama的信息；而各种非官方的网站和论坛则多不胜数。喜爱Futurama的观众为了反对FOX终止这一剧集的决定，发起了多项要求恢复播出网络呼吁书，有上万人签名，可惜并没有能够达到目的。
2004年，Futurama和另一部命运相似的FOX动画剧集Family Guy开始在Cartoon Networks有线电视网面向成年人的卡通时间档Adult Swim中播出，两部剧集都取得相当好的收视率，因此FOX已决定在2005年继续制作Family Guy，而有关Futurama的继续制作则只有零星传闻，没有实质性消息。

Philip J. Fry
20世纪的失败者
弗莱,港譯为阿乃。一個生活頹靡的美國青年。在1999年12月31日意外被冷凍一千年。
弗莱在未冷凍前曾離開父母和兄長與女友 Michelle 同居，但 Michelle 在他被冷凍之前不久拋棄了他。後來 Michelle 把自己冷凍並與弗莱再續前緣，但最後仍是把他拋棄了。
弗莱在劇中常因行為愚魯而被取笑。另外他亦甚為好色，在整套劇中曾與至少六個女子及一個發熱器發生關係。其中一次他意外而回到1947年，使自己名義上的祖父死於一次核試之中，且與自己的祖母共枕，因此成了自己實際上的祖父。但正因為這樣，他在一場自宇宙大爆炸以來即持續不斷的一場戰爭中扮演關鍵性的角色，並成為他被冷凍的主因。
Turanga Leela
独眼美女
莉拉，港譯為莉娜或麗娜。一個只有一隻眼睛及紫色頭髮的女子。當弗莱在3000年從冷凍管中被放出來時，他被帶到當時是「人生指派官」的莉拉面前。弗莱不滿自己被判定只能做快递員而逃走。後來莉拉雖然擒住他，但她發現自己也不喜歡這份工作，於是擅自辭職並和弗莱一起找他的遠房侄孫，最後於弗莱這位侄孫的快递公司裏擔任機師。
劇集初期莉拉以為自己是外星人，但在後期作者揭露了她的身世──她其實屬於一個經過基因突变的人種。她身上的變異比同類的突變人 (包括她的父母) 都要少，所以她的父母在她還是一個嬰兒的時候把她送到地面的孤兒院，希望她在地上過較好的生活。
莉拉在劇中曾與兩個男人 (其中一人是 25 星的大將軍，另外一人是能不斷變身的怪物) 發生關係，並曾和另外三個男人約會。但這些男人最後都被驗證為沒有誠意。唯一真心愛上莉拉的人是弗莱，但莉拉嫌他太蠢而不肯接受他。
Bender
最恶心最好色的机器人
班德，港譯為傻機，是一個脾氣壞的机器人。他建成時的功用是扭曲鋼條，但當他發現這些鋼條被用作自殺亭 (一個類似电话亭但是是讓使用者自殺的設施) 時，他氣得走到自殺亭自殺，結果在那裏遇上誤把自殺亭當是電話亭的弗莱。兩人離開了自殺亭，後來和莉拉一起到弗莱的遠房侄孫的快递公司工作。
班德常常罵人、喝酒 (他是以酒精驅動的) 和抽煙，且有偷竊的癖好。和人類相似，班德也頗好色，常在機械人夜總會出入。電路圖對他來說就是色情書刊。
Professor Hubert Farnsworth
Fry的远亲
休伯特·法兹沃斯教授，香港電視版譯為乃到應一應博士 (意指「與噩運碰個正著」) ，另外有音譯為凡士活教授。他是弗莱的曾曾曾...侄孫 (兩人約相差三十代)。是一個年屆 160 高齡的發明家，並開設快递公司以作其財政後盾。他的任務很多時候都帶有高度風險。

龙虾医生
佐艾伯格,一隻貌似龍蝦的外星人，是公司的隊醫。雖然是醫生，他對人類的生理結構一無所知，故常斷症錯誤。 Zoidberg 也是非常愚蠢和貧窮的。他平時住在垃圾堆裏。很多觀眾都認為 Zoidberg 是全劇最惹笑的角色。
Hermes Conrad
星际快递的CEO
赫米斯·康拉德，是快递公司的官僚，並負責其日常工作及財政。他是牙買加裔人。
Hermes 在劇中的形象是較為務實、錙銖必較和刻薄，但他的口頭禪和高度的官僚作風成為劇中笑料的一大來源。
Amy Wong
王氏集团独生女
負責維修快递船的見習工程師。她是華裔火星人，父母非常富有，在火星經營農莊。
雖然平時穿著運動服，但她基本上是全劇平均穿衣最少的人。她和劇中不少男角（包括弗莱）都有過不同程度的一夜情，但到後期便以一位中尉 Kif Kroker 為固定的男友。 Kif Kroker 的上司便是曾與莉拉發生關係的 25 星大將軍。

Season 5, Episode 16: The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings 10 August 2003 Fry makes a deal with the Robot Devil so he can get robot hands to play the holophoner and impress Leela. In a twist of fate, Fry trades hands with the Robot Devil and writes a masterpiece opera about Leela. However, the Robot Devil has evil plans of his own.
劇中的社會現象
宗教
在劇集中，基督教、猶太教、伊斯蘭教、印度教及佛教五合為一，成為一個合一的聯合教會。不過，亦有這些傳統宗教的支派不滿意這種合一而保持獨立。例如：太空天主教就是當中的一種。它由一隻蚚蜴人太空教宗(Crocodylus pontifex)所創立，並把其宗教建基於反對人類與機械人之間的戀愛這概念上。本故事其中有一集叫做“我與機械人約會”(I Dated a Robot)就有提及這宗教。在這一集裡，主角Fry觸犯了不能與機械人相戀的禁忌，與一個以現美籍華人影星劉玉玲為基礎的機械人約會。
另外，現時美國著名的脫口秀女主持人奥普拉·温芙瑞亦成為了未來的膜拜對象，成為了一種新的宗教與巫毒教一樣成為了當時的主流宗教。而在拉丁美洲的版本，奥普拉·温芙瑞則變成了當地的富豪Walter Mercado。
語言
在劇集中，法語被指為已變成一種已消亡的語言，所有本來講法語的人都已改用英語。不過這劇集在法國播映時，已消亡的語言被改成為德語。
政治
行星民主秩序是一個行星政治組織。
其他
在美國的製作概況
- Futurama這名稱來自1939年紐約世界博覽會中，通用汽車用作展示未來科技的展館名稱。在這個展館內，以真空管製成的電視亦首次亮相。這台電視機由Philo Farnsworth發明，而他的姓亦成為了這套電視劇的角色名稱。
- Futurama於1999年开播，霍士的高层对剧集期望值极高，希望Matt Groening能创造新的辛普森神话，但剧集还在筹划阶段時，霍士的人就和Groening闹出了很多矛盾。等到正式开播后，Futurama的播放時段經常被插播其他節目，没能拥有很固定的播放时间段，严重影响到了剧集的收视和口碑情况。雖然最後播映堅持到了第五季，但Futurama还是逃不过停播的命运，因為當時霍士已積壓了可讓整整一年播出的其他製作。劇集总计播出了72集，於2003年8月10日結束，但其實其製作只有四個季度，因為每個播放季度的節目都不能全數播放，以使不少製作好的節目都要留在下一個季度播放。
- 2003年DVD的发行改变了一切，凭借剧集本身过硬的质素和独特的体裁，Futurama成了一个大Cult，很多fans纷纷请愿要FOX恢复剧集播出，后者在另一部动画剧Family Guy上已经开了这一先例。DVD的热销也让FOX不得不对Futurama另眼相看，当下关于剧集会推出直接发行DVD电影版的传言甚嚣尘上。
- 另外，雖然Futurama未能在霍士電視繼續播映，但它仍然在其他美國本土(如：Cartoon Network)及其他國家的電視台播映。
幕后花絮
在劇集選取配音員之時，曾為《辛普森一家(阿森一族)》配音的Phil Hartman本來獲選為Zapp Brannigan配音，但在劇集開始製作以前突然離世。有人認為Billy West在為Zapp Brannigan配音時刻意模仿Phil Hartman為Troy McClure配音時的腔調，是向Phil Hartman致敬。另外，Fry的名字在製作之本來是Curtis，在這次事件後亦改為Philip，以懷念Phil Hartman。
