制造塞昂人的目的，是让他们从事一些危险的或繁杂的工作，使人们生活的更安全和便利；在联合政府没有成立以前，主要用于12个殖民地之间的战争。

塞昂人开始反抗主人，并进行了一场惨烈的旷日持久的战争。最终，双方宣布停战协议，塞昂人离开了殖民地经营自己的星球。

但塞昂人并不想停止战争。它们制定了详尽的征服12个殖民地的作战计划。通过间谍渗透、核轰炸、进入殖民地电脑网络、控制各种飞行器等手段，终于在四十年后，消灭了殖民舰队，占领或摧毁城市，杀死十几亿人， 大约只有五万人活命。这些幸存者被迫离开殖民地。
